IPARK City
Seoul, South Korea
2019 ASLA Honor Award St. Louis Chapter
Each element of the proposed North Seoul IPARK City is designed to support creation of a New Economic Hub tuned to attract companies and individuals who are engaged in the common vision of the power of the Smart City and who are interested in the benefits of innovative synergy and a smart lifestyle.
Seoul is a leader in Smart City Development. If North Seoul IPARK City is to become the leading innovation district within Seoul, where citizens can participate in the evolution of the city, the elements of the proposal must be seen as a framework for development wherein not only the digital information evolves, but the physical environment evolves and changes. For example, one might imagine that live work will become ever more popular requiring flexibility in housing units or that the grocery store of today becomes the knowledge center of tomorrow. This proposal prepares for this change. Evolution and change are the hallmarks of the project.
Urban and technological evolution will be driven by a diverse culture of thinkers and innovators. Each element of North Seoul IPARK City has been conceived to attract not only local contributors, but to an internationally diverse culture of Smart Clientele. This can include a broad range of individuals and companies from innovative students at surrounding universities seeking start-up opportunities to major, multinational companies who may wish to collaborate and capitalize on culture and brain power of North Seoul IPARK City. This diverse group will be supported by a flexible infrastructure of buildings, streets and open space designed with growth, change, flexibility and collaboration in mind.
These essential urban components, supported by common governance, evolving transportation systems, green energy systems, and smart, district technology must be capable of enabling growth and change in real time to keep pace with global economic evolution.
